Identifying the ‘purpose’

One Saturday evening, Sam (the drummer) and I both were at VYK. Along with other members of GCLC worship team, we were doing run through of all the songs for Sunday worship. For some reason, I appreciated Sam playing drums and immediately he replied me – Joe, “When I play drums, the symbols talk to me and in return, I talk to them back.” That was an eye opening for me. I picked it from that conversation and stored it in my heart. A few weeks later, I was walking home from office and thinking about congestion on roads, thinking about how to solve the issues related to transport that this society is facing? All of a sudden, I landed on this thought – for Sam, the symbols are talking to him and for me the traffic infrastructure & transportation planning problems in the society are talking to me. After all, I found myself struggling to talk back to those problems.

For Peter, my friend – it is terrace gardening. He talks and he thinks on ways how to use the household waste to create these gardens. He invest his time and resources to know it and to try it.What about you?

Find out what is one area in your life that is talking to you while you are alone or walking and in return where you are struggling to talk back. Build communication bridges between you and those elements that are talking to you. Spend time, talk to them. Connect yourself with this good thing that is disturbing you. Once you start this, trust me you will find so many things coming on your way and talking to you.

On a mathematical note, ‘a line is an integral of many dots’. Connecting all these dots; the dots that are talking to you will create purpose of your life. This is what about – Identifying the ‘purpose’ through building communication bridges with the dots.

Ignorance is Fatal!

Last night I was at exhibition grounds in Chandigarh. Enjoying my time with pastor’s kids and taking them around the exhibition. It is Dussehra, festive season here; there is so much of crowd in the exhibition. In south India, I haven’t seen people making idols of Ravan and burning it. But what draw my attention is this; the story says, Rama killed Ravan an evil one for some good cause and the whole nations celebrate this. One of my friends wrote this on his facebook wall saying, it is the day of victory of goodness over badness. Check it below.

My take here is: the heart of the problem is the problem of the heart. Man, in every human there is an evil Ravan; how to address this issue? Who will deliver us from this internal Ravan character in us? We are celebrating Rama killed Ravan. But Ram didn’t address the internal problem of our heart.

The good news is Jesus had addressed this issue 2000 years back. He came and died to save us from the eternal death and from this evil Ravan living inside of us. He has nullified the power of Ravan in us through his death on the cross and reconciled us to the God the creator. But we live in ignorance of this celebration. Jesus plainly said in his word – he who believes in his work will have eternal life. You know ignorance is fatal! Try knowing about the work of Jesus, you will realize so much. By the way, listen to this song ‘Calvery’ by Hill Song, it will lead you through the lines above I have shared. God bless!

The Savior alone carried the cross
For all of my debts, He paid the cost
Salvation complete now forever I’m free
Calvary covers it all

Calvary covers it all
My sin and shame, don’t count anymore
All praise to the One who has ransomed my soul
Calvary covers it all

No power on Earth
Not even the grave
Could separate us from mercy and grace
He is faithful to save, oh His blood never fails
Calvary covers it all

Calvary covers it all
My sin and shame, don’t count anymore
All praise to the One who has ransomed my soul
Calvary covers it all

No one but Jesus
Can make us pure as snow
We stand in Your freedom
Calvary covers it all

Calvary covers it all
My sin and shame, don’t count anymore
All praise to the One who has ransomed my soul
Calvary covers it all

All praise to the One who has ransomed my soul
Calvary covers it all

General of the Army!

Once after our Sunday church service, I was coming home with my youth pastor in his car. While we were talking couple of things, he asked me a question. Teja, whose preachings do you like to listen? I’ve replied him without any second thought, – Pastor, I like my preaching. Everyone in the car laughed at what I said! Yes of-course, no one expect that kind of answer. At that time I was unable to express them clearly why I like my preaching? I just tried explaining them that, whenever I preach, I do feel like living waters flowing from my heart.

Before my preachings, I do think structuring what I like to talk, i spend time to think on how to un-complicate the complicate? Also, in my preaching I use these elements– like the kind of God we serve and the kind of who we are as per Bible. When people know who the kind of God they serve or who they are as per Bible, their faith will be kindled. These thoughts I enjoy them very much in my preparation.

But off late, I got more add-on to these gems. It is looking at pastors as General of the Army! Let me tell you, I like to watch movies on mission oriented especially any movie involves US Navy SEALS operations, rescue missions and sniper movies etc. These movies have helped me to understand couple of things very clearly. Before sending the army for combat or any rescue operation, the top leader will sit and discuss with his team and place the blue print of the mission before them. And then the army guys goes to the field to execute the mission. People from the base station constantly keep the communication open for the army fighting on the ground in enemy provinces.

My analogy here is, people in the church are the army who goes into the world and fight their life battles. Pastors are like the generals who lead this army from the base station which is church. You get 20-35 minutes of time to place your blue print of the mission. Treat the time you get as so precious and prepare yourself for it! May, I request you pastors to take time to think upon who you are and the kind of responsibility you carry. To God, the Lord of Armies alone is the Glory!

Meant to Live

I was asked by one of my EU friend to speak at a bible study in NITTTR, Chandigarh. So on Friday 23rd September, 2016 evening I’ve spoken to the young kids at NITTTR on “Meant to Live”.

They have started with a few hymns and after singing there was introduction time to introduce one another. Further, Nivi didi asked us to share any testimony if we had. I have shared with them how God works through over the time!! Three year back, I gave an interview at DIMTS, Delhi but couldn’t get through it. Three years later, I haven’t imagined that I will be issuing a letter to CEO, responding to his request to work on smart city projects with the Chandigarh Administration.

After the testimonies time, I have given time to share from the word of God.

The portion I have taken is from 1 Samuel 14:1-7

I tried explaining the setting of this situation! I had introduced two key persons Jonathan and Armor barer – their faith & believe

i) I explained them the difference b/w Knowing God Vs Knowing about God.

Jonathan knows his God as “Nothing can hinder the Lord from saving, whether by many or by few.” All the other 600 soldiers including the King Saul (Father of Jonathan) knows about God, but they didn’t take a step ahead/ they didn’t come forward to risk their lives to rescue a nation.

ii) Join hand with those believe in what we believe – to bring deliverance to nations!

This is what happened with Jonathan and the armor barer!

Jonathan said to his young armor-bearer, “Come, let’s go over to the outpost of those uncircumcised men. Perhaps the Lord will act in our behalf. Nothing can hinder the Lord from saving, whether by many or by few.  Here is the classic reply from the armor bearer

“Do all that you have in mind,” his armor-bearer said. “Go ahead; I am with you heart and soul”. (1 Sam 14:7)

I told the students try to connect the vision or belief of their teacher or professor – to make their studies interesting. Their studies/projects will be boring unless they connect to a bigger vision/belief than themselves.  The armor barer connected to the belief of Jonathan and stood with his belief. That is what made Jonathan that day to go ahead and kill the enemy camp.

iii) Meant to Live – I did encourage those students reading the lines of the song written by John Foreman – Switchfoot; that they meant to live for so much more like Jonathan!

We were meant to live for so much more

Have we lost ourselves?

Somewhere we live inside

Somewhere we live inside

This is what i am talking about!

Sometime back I told my friends; Marriage is about – two willing people coming together with all they have; for a life time walk to serve God, to serve each other and the community around them.

Life is a game and marriage is a part of it. You are partnering with a willing person and together you help each other to play the game. Marriage is about the partnership between both the partners, it is about team play! When I say team play what reminds me is 1 Samuel 14:1-7 Jonathan and the armor barer. What a team work it is! When one partner leads the life’s battles other partner saying like  – “Do all that you have in mind,” his armor-bearer said. “Go ahead; I am with you heart and soul”. (1 Sam 14:7)

It is funny, knowing both the partners are different – still they come together for one goal, which I have highlighted above. (a life time walk to serve God, to serve each other and the community around them)

The phase of preparation for my marriage has changed my view and my relationship with God in another level. I am happy for it and let me share it with you.

So the story goes like this; one fine day, I was praying to God as usual – God I needed a willing woman, who is ready and who is willing to walk a life time walk with me. This is my desire and prayer! When I said these words, immediately the words of Andy Stanley rang in my heart. He said, “Are you the person you’re looking for is looking for?” what he meant is, we should become the person that the person we’re looking for is looking for.

The whole thing led me to these thoughts like; I committed my life to Christ 11 years ago. After looking back, I’ve realized my walk with God is going to be the shadow of my walk with my wife. Therefore if I neglect my walk with God; eventually it will show it up in my marriage life. So I started taking so serious about my relationship with God.

On the flip side, God spoken to me what is marriage about through this word from Proverbs. It is – Where there are no oxen, the manger is empty, but from the strength of an ox come abundant harvests. Prov.14:4 NIV

The Lord has revealed me that my marriage is the field owned by this farmer (God himself); my partner and myself are the oxen in this field; working for God. And he said clearly – from the strength of an ox come abundant harvests!!

We all know, we can’t tie nether an ox and a donkey nor a strong ox with a weak ox. I am leaving this thought with you here.

There are so many strong voices out there in the world proclaiming that this marriage won’t work but it is you and I have to make decision to listen to those strong voices or the gentle voice of the Lord – as He says in His word.

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me. Revelation 3:10

I will be updating more on this as and when the Lord inspires to me add to this section. Have fun! God loves you. Have confidence in God – he sees marriage as a good thing.

Important question by a buddy mathematician!

Chandan is my friend in Delhi and a buddy mathematician who wrote his introduction lines on face book as – “a boy want to dig more as he can and to prove himself by proving certain theorem.” So after reading his introductory lines you might have some opinions like – he is geeky mathematician. Yes indeed he is proves and a geek holding good understanding in mathematics. This chap, posted on 24th September, 2016 the following message – #ImportantQuestion. Let’s check it out.

I felt like, let me give my take on this. So I quickly penned down these lines and written to him. I hope this will inspire many students out there.

All right! Let me share with you my understanding on this and I wish it will help your understanding too.

So do you know, who are the beneficiaries of our studies or the projects we do? I mean whatever is the subject we study or whatever is the project we do –It is the people or the community we live in are the beneficiaries of our efforts and our talents. It is not about an individual, it is about the society.

Through our studies and our projects we contribute something to this society. Let me say that element something as “X”. And I wish that “X” = productive good thing that may happened to the society.

Many young people are living their lives not fully knowing that their studies or projects are so important. They feel bored to study or to do their projects and end up contributing less productive things to the society at least in India; we know India is the top nation having highest percentage young people. Economic Times, Nov 2014

So question here is – how I landed on this understanding? What has inspired me to think like this?

It is the BIBLE, which constantly taught me about God the Love. It says – For God so loved the world and gave his only begotten son that who so ever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.”

What it mean? It means – God so loved the world (including everyone under the sun); God loves people – from every race and ethnicity. He loves people irrespective of color or culture.

And the same Bible has asked me to love my neighbor as myself. The God, whom I serve, is a God who loves people and he has asked me to love my fellow neighbor as myself. So when I started loving people or loving the community around I live in that is when I realized this man!! That all the knowledge I got from my studies, the projects I do, that talents I carry are ideally should benefit people. Because again I say; I serve a God who loves people. The game here is about people my brother. Let’s play it for the people.

Take care.

I have a suggestion

Hello people, “I have a suggestion!!” is a letter to Indian Primie Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, as he requested the nation to give suggestions on what to speak for this Independence Day #2016. So here I gathered couple of thoughts and written to him. I hope you will find something down the lines to re-read this post!

Dear Mr Prime Minister,

Thank you for giving me this opportunity!

I read this in a journal of a powerful leader saying this, “My people are perishing having lack of knowledge” which I see as the right concern that every leader should have!

I am an Urban Transport Planner; I see this in our nation, people breaking law and rules in their day to day lives. We have policies, we have law, we have rules to obey but people here in our nation take them for granted putting safety, environment and culture of this nation (in fact every strength of our nation)  in danger.

Sir, my concern is, if ever the people in our nation has taken serious of every policy, rule and law made by our government and if ever they stand by with them (with the policies, rules and laws made by the government) our nation would have been the most powerful nation on earth.

Sir finally let me share with you what John F Kennedy; the late president of United States gave a call to his people. He told them, “Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country”

I wish may these words will ring in ears of every citizen of this nation for this Independence Day #2016.

Love you, thank you and God bless.
